Medigap Plan G : A Great Choice!

Updated: Mar 28, 2024

A Comparable Replacement for Plan F for new Medicare Enrollees

Some people may be indecisive about what they are going to do when they turn age 65 but not you. Five years ago, you strategically started planning for your future. There are two objectives for you when you retire at age 65: start your own business and purchase a Medigap Plan when you are first eligible. For both options, you feel that you are fully prepared. For your business, your business plan is complete, you have registered your business name with the state and you have the necessary funding and insurance to get started. Through your research, you have determined that the best supplemental health coverage is Medicap Plan G (a comparable replacement for Plan F-- see previous post for Plan F benefits).

Here is a summary of Plan G benefits:

Plan G has the same benefits as Plan F except it does not cover the Medicare Part B deductible.

Plan G is only available to adults new to Medicare that meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You turned 65 on or after January 1, 2020

  2. You’re under the age of 65 and enrolled in Medicare Part A on or after January 1, 2020

If you remember, Plan C also has comparable benefits to Plan F, but Plan C benefits are no longer available to people new to Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. If you already have Plan C benefits prior to January 1, 2020, you can keep your plan. See our previous post about Plan C.

You have determined that other Medicare enrollees like and have enrolled in Medigap Plan G. In December 2021, there were a total of 4,513,504 Medicare enrollees in Plan G. The state of Maryland had 81,377 enrollees and the state of North Carolina had a total of 204,699 enrollees. Plan G is a great choice!

Please note, we will not provide a seperate post for Plans E, H, I and J. These plans are no longer sold. Generally, if you already have one of these plans, you can keep them.

We hope this information about Plan G has been helpful to you. We look forward to sharing information with you about Medigap Plan K in our next post.
